Must Haves
A Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy is a mandatory requirement, although having a PharmD and/or an MBA/MS (or equivalent education/experience) is preferred.
Possession of a valid state license for practicing pharmacy is a must.
Demonstrated abilities in management, leadership, and/or program management are necessary.
A desirable background includes a minimum of five years of experience in hospital pharmacy.
Key Responsibilities
Manages daily administrative duties for operations.
Develops departmental goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.
Enhances services and ensures compliance with regulations.
Keeps leadership informed about operational matters.
Drives the implementation of new services, procedures, and pharmacy automation.
Promotes teamwork within the organization.
Establishes and executes Performance Improvement Programs for pharmacy operations.
Measures, assesses, and enhances organizational performance.
Supports professional development through education for departmental personnel.
Manages the pharmacy team, including hiring, training, scheduling, coaching, and mentoring.
Reviews and approves schedules for Technicians and Pharmacists.
Conducts regular meetings with pharmacy staff.
Develops and monitors staffing plans based on factors like acuity and census.
Coordinates and conducts staff performance reviews.
Oversees purchasing and inventory management.
Ensures compliance with healthcare standards.
May act as a preceptor to pharmacy students or residents.
Prepares medications following standards.
Verifies physician medication orders accuratemanagement ly and promptly.
Monitors and evaluates medication processes for quality improvement.
Approves Pharmacy Technicians’ work.
Manages computerized pharmacy systems.
Orders, stores, and monitors medications.
Evaluates drug therapy for appropriateness and effectiveness.
Provides information on cost-effective pharmaceutical use.
Collaborates with healthcare professionals to implement evidence-based guidelines.
Offers drug information to medical staff, nurses, and other pharmacists.
Provides specialized services for managing conditions like diabetes and hypertension.
Recommends changes in drug therapy based on patient assessment.
Documents clinical interventions and maintains patient records.
Participates in Medication Reconciliation activities.
