For the last 7 years German has been the number one most in demand language for companies to hire for in the UK. There are many reasons why a company would look to hire for a German speaker.

Europe’s Economy

The main reason companies want to hire German speakers in the UK is simply because Germany is the second biggest economy in Europe (behind the UK). With our open market (regardless of Brexit) it is very easy to sell cross border via the internet. So take for example a company based in the UK that sales team that only speaks English, they are somewhat restricted to selling into Europe where as a similar company that has a bilingual German and English speaking sales team can very easily sell into the UK and the DACH region giving them a much larger market to sell to. This works the same if it was a customer service team rather than a sales team… they would juts be providing customer service to the DACH region.

The demand is there

I could list hundreds of reasons as to why a companies would want to hire German speakers, however many companies struggle to attract German speakers in the UK, even though there are an estimated 300,000 German speakers at fluent and native level in the UK and only around 500-900 vacancies throughout the year.
